The return of a winter wonderland

It seems that some folks spent the holiday long weekend of May 24 (Victoria Day) basking in the heat and the sunshine. This weekend traditionally is meant for camping (or not) in wet, rainy weather but it seemed several locations across Canada had stunning weather this year. Well, Churchill was not one of these locations where the weather was fabulous. The tundra was transformed back into a winter wonderland over the weekend courtesy of a spring/winter storm.

It started out with snow that changed to freezing rain and rain and then back to snow (large flakes) and then to freezing rain and fog. The last 24 hours pretty much covered the forms of precipitation that fall from the sky in the spring....

By late this afternoon (Monday), much of the snow had melted and there was only a bit of ice left on things. The forecast is for continued cool and seasonal weather the remainder of this week.
